For those Mennonites who remained in Russia until the Russian Revolution, borrowings from Russian and Ukrainian are somewhat different:
- Significant numbers of borrowings in areas of household and family life (e.g. nicknames, kinship terms, clothing terms)
- Suggests a growing familiarity and contact with Russian society at a personal level
